Civil Wars 2, 6

Very tiny installment as it wraps up the Houston hospital arc. The next will have this odd family back together, with an introduction of Istvan and Llaura Hartmann and their infant son, plus a bit of a shock to Graf. Looks like a Thursday update.

With a nurse waking me up at midnight to check my vitals – I know it has to be done but it’s still annoying – I may as well do something useful.

My dear family, I know it’s silly of your dad to write a letter just a few hours before I see everyone again, but I’m up late and missing y’all.  Suza, have you been playing with Ödön?  You are the nicest person in the family and will be a great mom someday!  Your mother did send me a small message, Tér, that you’ve been helping Mister Istvan around their house and on their patch of land.  I’ve a suspicion, Alix, that the twins are simply rolling around in the mud in constant fights.  Those started inside you and seem to have never stopped; I guess they never will.  I suppose that will make them excellent legionaries for the (no, Aurelia will likely be retired by then, and Pai has told me a little about internal imperium politics) next emperor.

“If you don’t finish that now and go to sleep, I will make you, Husband,” Pai growled at him from the dark.

Anyway, we’ll be there tomorrow afternoon.  I hope for many adventures with all of you.  I love you all.

“Here,” he said, lifting the paper.  He made out his wife’s form in the low light of the hospital room as she stood and took it.

“Sent.  Go to sleep.”

“Yes, Dear.”
