“The Fallen” 2/10

And this is the end of part two. It would made for a fantastic scene in a movie, which was how it was shown to me.

Saras’ conflicted feelings to Les are obvious, as a girl, and complex, as they are both demis. Her question and his answer toward the conclusion put an end to whatever emotions she might have been feeling about him, besides love and respect for a senior member of the family. And, this is two Tolkien references in two segments, for those of you keeping track.

I’m getting into part three…and it’s a tangle. Unlike part one which had Eloise with “first-person thoughts,” and part two with Saras doing the same, there is no single of the three I’ve met so far who will have that. So, instead of people thinking and talking to move the story along, it’s third-person me typing all this out. It is NOT my style and I find it limiting and clunky. I’ve only about 1000 words of it so far, and one of those three characters hasn’t even wandered onstage yet, so I’m a little unclear as to how long part three will be. I do, at least, see how it keeps the overall arc toward that feral demi-girl whose image started all this foolishness.

Have a good weekend. New material on Monday. Deus vult.

“The Fallen” 2/3

This was an exercise in story whiplash. From Eloise and Saras having a pleasant banter to the younger threatening the older. I’m thinking that having Saras off on Mars, with her only real oversight being Kira and Aqua, is a mistake. We all know that Faustina kept all of her children on a short lead and was – and is – very demanding. There’s no real way for Fussy to exercise that kind of power over her granddaughter. And it is starting to show.

Almost finished with the copyedit of “Ice Inundation Intelligence,” so hope to send for a proof copy this weekend. That should point to a commercial release in late September.

Book 17. Part Four. 9 End

The last part of Part Four. And, yes, it’s a little weird. These are raws and I’ll clean it up in one of my editing passes before I give it to my copyeditor; otherwise, he’d likely delete it and email “what the f*ck was that!?”

It’s a matter of Chekov’s Gun: you mention the rifle over the mantlepiece in Act One, it damn well better go off later. Konev and his team came across Joseph, so here he is again.

I’m half done with the Epilogue. That half is about Bob, El, others, and yes, “Joseph” gets an explanation. The second half, hopefully later today – BTW, it’s 0500 right now – will be about Konev. Then, for all contented porpoises, I’ll be finished and able to begin my three editing passes.

Book 17. Part Four. 5

These next few will be shorter as I’ll only be posting the immediate change of POV. In this case to Bob.

The C4 is an addition I thought of later: not all doors in a prison will be connected to an electrical system, certainly not one connected to the Net. More direct action will be needed.

Had to watch some old “Bob and Doug” on Youtube to get the accent right.

Book 17. Part Four. 4

Taking the advice of a fellow writer, I am just going to bull ahead with this and worry about head-hopping and formatting later. I had fretted myself into a standstill and that’s worse than writing dreck.

So, this is very, very raw. Raw-er than usual. One of the things I do not like as how I shoehorned the demon’s cart into this installment. I know he crops up in about three or four installments, but I needed the foreshadowing. I’ll fix it later.

With Imaginarium coming up in less than a week, I’ll be busy packing, buying food and booze, completing my very rough outline for the panel I’m hosting (I noted several assistant panelists have been added; I hope one hour is enough time), so I’ve doubts about completing the MS. But, you never know… this Part is going to be moving very fast.

And, yes: I just made up “the Three R’s.” I’m proud of that.

Book 17. Part Four. 2

Easy to get sidetracked whenever Reina drops in. Trying not to. Since Bob revealed something personal about her, she did the same, giving Konev his answer.

I’ve seen the “action sequence” coming up but am having trouble writing it without making things confusing or coming across like an idiot. I’m sure it’ll work out.

Reina has a family? Yep. Her daughter on a research trip? Yep.

Book 17. Part Three (end). 25

We reach the end of Part Three, the story from Eloise’s point of view. About a page of notes for the concluding Part Four, but as I mentioned, I’m off to LibertyCon in two days and being sober and on my best behavior shall be my primary objectives. What posting I do shall likely be related to the Con itself.

What’s below is dark, but being is prison is. Fortunately, it looks as if Aurie’s modifications took. It’s now a race between Bob getting back to Earth and when the kangaroo court decides to have El shot.

Book 17. Part Three. 23

I had no idea Aurie could do this until a few days ago. The “how” took another day until I recalled just how very different her mother, Henge, is. So there you are.

Looks as if Part Three shall end on entry #25. That will come out right before I’m off to LibertyCon. I hope to be much older there. I’ll take Rory, my laptop, just in case I suddenly need to tap something out while at the con.

Book 17. Part Three. 20

From the odd interaction with Ninon, and Ai, Eloise is now thrust back into international politics. And her commanding general does not seem pleased.

Part Three shall end with Eloise going north. Plane? Scout saucer? Don’t know yet. Boy, am I going to have to edit and restructure the hell out of this MS.
