New Pai, 6

A short addition for a Friday, but there’s obviously a lot going on in this little scene. There, obviously, will be confusion and questions on Graf’s part. Really, I have several, as well. Does 1.0 get deactivated and/or put into storage? She still has live flesh to feed every three days, unless Somi removes it first. Since a Thinking Machine could easily setup and use multiple androids, is 1.0 still out and about, especially in the face of a possible coming religious war? I have no idea.

Let’s all find out, together.

New Pai, 5

Much bigger mid-week addition, but I want the reveal to happen on Friday, to give everyone something to think about over the weekend. I wanted to continue with the simple, bucolic world Graf finds himself in right now, after his and Pai’s recent travels. I am, also, getting an idea for what will either be the second half or part three of this novel; it’s been too long since something blew up.

There really is a steampunk-themed B&B in Spring Green, WI. How has it stayed open for the last 150 years into my future history? No idea. Maybe no one thought it was worth looting? And, I can definitely see Suza making a small difference engine once she gets back home to Wilmington.

Back in the river for more fish. Suza says something a bit startling to her dad, who runs it back past Alix. Later, at breakfast, Pai gets sneaky again about later that day. Then she shocks Mindy awake with her news of her unilateral action.

If I can just get everyone to this afternoon, the next segment, I can return to the plot of “religious war?” and start making trouble for everyone.

New Pai, 3

I’m having to sneak up on this as there are, as you’ll read, three big things looming in Pai’s mind. In signal with her totality from their ship parked behind the house, she still is unsure how to proceed. A concern in my mind is she might just panic and leave, at least for a while.

I am happy that after three years, and children, Alix’s disgust is now more just a subtle teasing of someone vastly different from her. And, even with the odd family arrangement, that they can love one another.

New Pai, 2

Wife woke up at 0011 complaining of aches and pains. She also had – and has – a fever. One of our weekend pharmacists says influenza is endemic in central Ohio right now. Boomers panic and go to the hospitals, so now there are no beds. It’s the fookin’ flu. Yes, it sucks, but maybe it’s your time, Mr. and Mrs. “We’re spending our childrens’ inheritance.”

So, I’ll post what I have as I’m not sure when I’ll be back to the keyboard. With this RealLife illness, I also mention how Graf was sick early in their mission.

With Mindy’s Intended there, I now have a fresh set of eyes to look at what is going on. He’s obviously not comfortable with the Graf/Pai/Alix situation, but is quickly distracted in hearing of Fusions. And, Graf and Min’s father experiences a little healing, thinking what future might be for his grandchildren.

New Pai, 1

New section, so new section title. It shall start in a calm, bucolic setting, but I hope the world catches fire in a few ten-thousand words. I do recall that Graf and Pai were married on this land, and that Alix was there, too. That was just before their, ah, agreement. Has she been back, since? I’ll find out and let y’all know.

My love of writing discussions over meals is nigh-well legendary, and this shall lead to another one. Pai will act like a maid to try to not call attention to herself, as it seems Minny’s beau, introduced below, is not sure what to think about all this, and her sitting in front of an empty plate might put him off.

In the background, we have a team of speculatores, one of many, making sure there will be no problems for Aurie’s annexation plans. I seriously doubt there will be any dialog, there. Also, there’s that secret “in two days” Pai mentioned. She knows, of course, so I do, too. Even Alix does. Poor Graf has no idea…

PAI, 28

This ends both the Redding arc as well as the entire tour of Graf and Pai to look into veneration of not just Ildi but now also some of her decendents. We also get more from Pai about why Graf might be important. I’d like to explore that futher in the next section

Which should be rather bucolic, back on his family farm and the surrounding area. I’ve had Alix and the kids off-screen for too long and so foresee a big family gathering while in the background, people such as Aurie and Reina consider their next moves. And Pai gets a makeover.

PAI, 27

Following hard on Pai’s reveal of her mother, Luce backpedals as quickly as she can. The goddess talk is also quickly drawn down. After running the Russian Empire for just over a hundred years, there’s no way a demi or Fusion could not know who Reina is.

But obviously having an inflated opinion of herself, Luce goes right back to poke the bear by flirting with Graf. We close with yet another mic drop about my main character.

PAI, 26

Unlike Grandma Ildi and even little Doe, this one seems to believe her own hype. So far as I know, Fusions have the same that a demi-human has: speed of thought and access to the Void. The wings and halo are just sorta there. The fact she’s carrying a battlerifle rather reinforces that notion. Still, they do seem to inspire some odd kind of reverence in humans. I suspect, but don’t know, that there is something in their nature which manifests that. We’ll have to find out.

I also am beginning to lean in on what or why Graf is so important to these people. That will keep for the next section, after Redding.

Pai discovers that name dropping still works.

PAI, 25

With the San Diego arc now safely behind us, I went on a 4000-word tear this weekend, esp after Mass, when I was gifted the last few scenes. So, we find our characters a few hundred miles north in a town which anchors the DMZ between the Russians and Mexicans, policed by legionaries following a treaty forced on them by a Texan, Kali. God’s agent.

But immediately, they realized things are amiss. Graf and Pai try to play “nice” but are overtaken by events. Well, they are overtaken by someone. This is a 4-way political mess. I just hope there’s no killing in this arc.
