PAI, 24

Going into the weekend, more snow expected here. My little centurion sent me a pic of her in a tank top with a parrot on her shoulder. Effing kids.

This closes out the San Diego arc. I don’t anticipate Redding to be all that long. I would like these kids to have some time off, so I guess they’ll have to get Alix and the children from Wilmington to his family home. I’ve a few ideas about that, too. Nothing is static. After a kind of family get-together, the next main part of the MS will open with Pai’s new android body. Upgrades!

Holidays, family, visitors, and being sick nearly every freakin’ day. No more flu shots; ever. It was made worse that this is still a very, very hard part to write. Saw it weeks, nearly a month ago, but still shied away from it. Cowardice, mostly.

So, there will be three parts to the End of Gordon. Graf gets some backstory from Cursed Hearts, then Pai reactivates and takes final measures. This arc will end at midnight on the electric beach of La Jolla. But there is a great expanse of blood between now and then.

Modern architecture is garbage. A design reflects its designer. I have personally known two architects. They were too dumb to be engineers and too talentless to be artists. Hence, all modern buildings.

I missed not being able to talk about Hotel del Coronado again. It is a wonderful place and worth even a walk-around if you are ever in the area. But, I just write what I’m told. A bit more exposition about San Diego and Alta California before we get into the weeds with Gordon on the next segment.

Aside: I admit I do not understand how Graf can be so loyal to two women. I’m fanatically loyal to my wife but also know that if someone looking like Hatsune Miku winked at me, I’d drive her like a hammer on a bed of nails.

It’s called “hiding in plain sight” and it usually works. Pai is correct in that most hourly workers will not go out of their way to make trouble, such as asking their manager, “Why is there a UFO on the roof?”

Was able to write ahead a little, so there will be another update on Thursday and hopefully a teaser for Friday. From what they find in downtown SD, it appears Ildi is a star there, too. I’m tempted to have a quick trip up to Redding where the imperium (idolizing Aurie) polices the DMZ between the Russians (idolizing Reina) and Mexico (starting to idolize Ildi). That, historically, is a recipe for war.

I was stuck for a few days. Probably still tired from DayJob. Not wanting this to turn into a long road show, I finally came up with their likely final investigative destination before returning to Aurie. When I realized it would be San Diego, it was one of those “I’m so stupid” moments. This allows me to link this MS to my romance/horror novel, Cursed Hearts (and it’s for 18+). Like many of my stories, it ended very quickly, so what has happened over the last 150+ years of the handful who survived Maya’s rampage?

That city was quickly stabilized under the Mexican Army, commanded by Anton Alvarez’s great-to-the-fourth grandfather. There should still be a stable of characters – heck, there was a proto-Thinking Machine in that book – I can draw on for this next scouting mission.
